Whenever I read these articles about sequestration (not to be confused with the Articles of Confederation), I start hearing Jim Morrison singing ‘The End’.

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I’ll never look into your eyes…again
Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need…of some…stranger’s hand
In a…desperate land

After these few lines, it then gets weird. But that’s not where I was headed by the song. It’s that current political events resonate, sometimes strongly or not, with the lyrics. And when I say ‘current’, that can be any critical juncture in the past fifty years.

Yet, the country continues. The rich keep getting richer, the poor, they just stay poor. And nothing really changes.

So, back to sequestration and budget. What can be imagined regarding government? If the people can’t maintain belief in their leaders, do they stop voluntary support of those leaders / government? If you stop (financial) support, how can the government survive, without resorting to armed control?

The current mess is a broken chain of financial give-and-take. Some entity in the process has taken more than they were supposed to. Does it make sense to identify those that took more, and correct the equation? Or does the current government insist on taking from all, to cover up the broken process?
